BLOODGUARD_TEASER3 Enter a world of immortal danger and desire—and discover an incredible fate borne of blood. Tendra: One minute, I’m a bartender in gritty Mission City; the next, I’m whisked away by a vampire named Athan who tells me that I’m the lifeblood of his clan. It sounds unbelievable, but he’s got evidence I can’t deny. Turns out, Athan belongs to an underground society of vampires who feed only on humans with their consent. Their enemies have no such qualms, and they want me dead. The only thing standing in their way is strong, sexy Athan. And the closer we get, the more tempted I am to let Athan feed. . . . Athan: How could I have known when I snatched this snarky, beautiful human off the streets that she would change my destiny? As a loyal soldier, I must deliver Tendra to our future king—my brother. Empowered with the blood of ten generations of the Gregorie breed, she is fated to rule as our queen. But there’s something between us that’s so intoxicating, so carnal, I can’t help wanting Tendra for myself . . . even if it’s treason.

EXCERPT:
The panic welled in my chest. I was trapped in a strange apartment with a strange man who probably outweighed me trifold. I opened up my mouth to scream but he held up his hand and said in a deep voice. “You scream, and I’ll just put you to sleep again.” My jaw snapped shut. I focused on breathing. In and out. In and out. I wanted to thrash and yell, and holler, but he’d somehow knocked me out before and I would be useless if he did it again. I glanced around. The only light was from a small, dim bare bulb above us. The rest of the room was in shadow. There was nothing I could use for a weapon, not even my shoes. I focused back on the man in front of me. “How’d we get here?” “I carried you,” he answered, his voice a rumble that I felt down to my bones. Something moved in the corner of my vision and I peered into the dark. A form materialized, and I must have been dreaming still because Brex was there. He stalked toward me, rubbed against my leg, then sat down by my feet like a feline guard. I tried to be calm, but I was close to losing it. I didn’t date. Was this how people dated now? Maybe it was a thing. “Why is my cat here?” My captor didn’t move, and half of his face was in shadow. “I brought him.” “I don’t keep my ID on me, so how’d you know where I live?” “I didn’t need your ID.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “I’ve been watching you.” Oh, just fucking great. A stalker. I’d be lucky if I made it out of here without him wearing my skin like clothes and my head in a freezer. “Okay, cool. Well, uh, hi. I’m Tendra. I applaud you for your unconventional, um, greeting. Want to untie me? We can go for a drink. I make a mean screwdriver.” Confusion flickered over his face, then his scowl deepened, like uncertainty angered him. “No.” I didn’t want to make him mad, but I’d never been great at keeping my mouth shut. Sometimes me opening my mouth was the reason we had to move. “Do you want money? Because I’m sorry to say, you kidnapped the wrong girl. Especially because I just paid rent. I’m eating peanut butter out of the tub for the next week.” Again with the angry confusion. He rubbed his forehead. “I don’t want your money.” I gritted my teeth. “Well, now you have me here. What do you plan to do to me?” The panic was slowly switching over to anger, the fight instinct my mother instilled in me strong as ever. If he was going to kill me, maybe I could piss him off enough that it would be quick. “Because I’ll tell you right now, I will fight you to my dying breath and then come back from the dead and haunt you until I convince you to cut your own dick off.” His expression didn’t change. “Charming.” I was signing my death warrant, but I couldn’t resist getting a shot in. “Fuck you, you creeper.” His chest rose as he inhaled sharply. “Right, so let’s have it out. I’m your guard, because you’re destined to be delivered to my older brother in order to make our clan stronger.” I didn’t move. Not an inch. Because holy shit, not only was he a creepy stalker, but he was out of his gourd, too. I couldn’t just have an evil stalker. Oh, no, I had to have a lunatic one, too. Zero of what he said made sense, so I focused on one thing at a time. “Excuse me? Clan? What are you, cavemen?” I thought he’d take offense, but instead he just looked bored. “No, not cavemen. Vampires.” I blinked. And blinked again. But nope, he was still there. This was still happening. Only me. If I made it out of here alive, what a story I’d have to sell about my stalker who thought he was a vampire. I had visions of the guy trying to bite my neck with his blunt teeth. Which made a giggle bubble up in my throat, which turned into a laugh, which turned into me throwing my head back in hysterical laughter until tears streamed down my cheeks. When I dropped my head and focused on him through my tears, he was watching me carefully, that impassive expression still on his face. He reached down and picked up Brex by the scruff of his neck, which immediately ceased any and all amusement on my part. “If you hurt my cat, swear to God—“ Brex yowled and swiped a paw across the man’s face. A thin line of scarlet bloomed on his cheekbone before the man dropped Brex, who scurried off to hide under a small table near an old couch. “Good job, Brex!” I shouted after him. “Now come back and finish the job!” I turned to my stalker, and whatever I was about to say died in my throat. I watched as the cut sealed up and vanished before my eyes. Gone. No mark, no blood. No nothing. And those dark eyes were still trained on me. About the Author:
Megan Erickson is a USA Today bestselling author of romance that sizzles. Her books have a touch of nerd, a dash of humor, and always have a happily ever after. A former journalist, she switched to fiction when she decided she likes writing her own endings better. She lives in Pennsylvania with her very own nerdy husband and two kids. Although rather fun-sized, she's been told she has a full-sized personality. When Megan isn't writing, she's either lounging with her two cats named after John Hughes characters or... thinking about writing.

Length: 9 hrs and 53 mins

Unabridged Audiobook

Release Date:04-24-17

Publisher: Foster & Black

From the first moment I see Mason Boone, I can't take my eyes off him. Everyone's got a different story about the gorgeous, silent man in chains. He's a hero, a former Navy SEAL. He's a fugitive, on his way to a court martial. He's a loner, a mountain man who hasn't spoken to another soul in years. But when our plane crashes deep in the Alaskan wilderness, he becomes my only hope. I'm an FBI agent and he's a prisoner, but to survive the wild animals, fierce weather, and unforgiving terrain, I must put my faith in him.
Staying alive means staying close: but every time he touches me, I melt inside. I can't resist this man, not when he looks at me as if he wants to push me up against the nearest tree and tear my clothes off.... Is it possible that he's innocent? Can I help him overcome the demons of his past? I'm a city girl but to survive this I'm going to need to learn to live as wild as him...because the greatest danger we face isn't from nature. The other prisoner from our flight is out there with his gang...and they're hunting us.

Review- Story 4 Stars

I read this book for the first time back in January of 2017. I am open to trying out new narrators so when this one was available on Audible I decided to check it out.

Kate is a by the book FBI agent. She went to Alaska to find a victim to a crime case she was working
on. Desperate to get to Nome when she finds out her witness has relocated there, Kate pretty much forces her way onto a charter flight that two US Marshals are using to transport two prisoners, Martin Weiss and Mason Boone. Kate soon realizes loyalties will be tested and she will have to question what is really right and wrong.

I really loved Kate. She was a such a strong character. From her first sight of Boone she feels something but her training is telling her to be wary of him. She has faith in the legal system and if he is wanted by the military, she believes he must have done something wrong. Kate soon learns that everything isn't so black and white. Kate was small but she packed a mean punch and didn't let her size interfere with what she needed to do to survive. She was very much a city girl but she was determined and she really used her wits to get out of bad situations.  Kate was the hero in a lot of this book.

Boone was an isolated man by choice. Wanted by the military for some transgressions overseas, he couldn't stand to go to jail. He is dealing with some deep demons that only the Alaskan wild can heal. I really love how Boone was shown as strong but vulnerable. I mean he was described as this hulking piece of man but also had this softness to him. Kate is the first woman hes really had deep contact with in years. From the beginning she was the one thing that calmed him. He was in awe of her caring nature but also saw the strength in her.  I love how the author choose to portray Boone. He was troubled but worked to overcome his demons. I think she took a chance to show the hero in a way that wasn't the super alpha male. With all that he has been thorough, you understand the choices he has made. He had faith in the system just like Kate, but he realized the hard way that the good guy doesn't always win.

I really loved Boone and Kate together. The duo was a tenuous one in the beginning because Kate had trust issues based on some things she learned about Boone but soon a partnership formed. One definetly built on attraction and the will to survive. Kate and Boone has some really steamy scenes but also some ones that really showed how the trust between the two of them was developed. This book had a really good balance of the romance and suspense aspects.

Narration- 4 Stars

This was my  second book narrated by Emma Wilder who narrated Kate's POV and I felt she did a really good job as Kate. I did feel her narration was a little slow especially compared to the other book I listened to her narrate but I never speed up audiobooks so I just dealt with it. I think she did a good job with Boone and the other minors characters voices.  This book actually had 3 POVs. The other two which were narrated by Scott Thomas were Boone's POV and Wiess. This was my first audiobook from Scott. I also think he did really good with his characters voices. Boone and Weiss were very distinguishable from each other. In some of Boone's really tense scenes, Scott really conveyed the desperation and fear of Boone's character. I really enjoyed the narration of Weiss. He sounded like how a soulless criminal would sound. He also did a good job with the other characters. Both narrators had a few minor characters with Russian accents and while they were not great accents, I was still satisfied with them as a listener.

Verdict: Read or Listen

I would pretty much rate the book and the audiobook the same. I think you could get enjoyment out of reading or listening to this story, but I honestly think listening to the audiobook gives the story a little more edge than over reading it. I dont re-read or re-listen to much but I can see this being an audiobook I may come back to.

I laugh and find myself tempted by her hand, which sits on the metal table. After our impromptu snogging session, Jade put on a nice little sundress which has my imagination running wild and some strappy sandals. Her toes are painted a turquoise blue. I found it a little weird at first; normally I see reds or pinks on toes, but rarely a blue colour. I quite like it. I like it a lot. In fact, I’ve yet to find something about this woman I don’t like.
“And yet, you didn’t. I came over and kissed you. You could’ve punched me, kicked me in the nuts, or groped me. I’m grateful you let me kiss you the way I did.”
She blushes again. “Why did you? I’m sure there are other, more beautiful women at the resort that would’ve been happy to oblige you.”
“But then I wouldn’t be here with my pretend wife, trying to get to know more about her.”
Her eyes don’t waver from mine as she takes a sip of her cocktail. “Do you really want to get to know me?”
“The fake you, yes. I don’t want to get cornered by one of the triplets and not know my facts.”
“Are they in fact, triplets?”
I shake my head. “I haven’t got a bloody clue, to be honest with you. Fake tits all look the same at the end of the day.”
Her mouth falls open into a sexy little O and images of other ways I can make that happen pop straight into mind. “I named them Muffy, Tuffy, and Buffy. The names seemed fitting,” she says with a shrug.
I crack the fuck up. “Then that is what we’ll call them until they leave.”
“Do you know when that is? Or what room they’re in?”
I lean over the table and pick her hand up. “They leave after us, and no, I don’t, thank goodness. I don’t care either. I made you a promise and I always keep my promises.” I bring her hand to my lips and let them linger against her skin until a passer-by makes a comment about us being in love.
Not love, lust though, and I couldn’t be happier that I chose her to be my distraction this week. When I finally let go of her hand, she picks up her drink and finishes it.
“Want another one?” I ask, already standing by the time she nods. I lean down and kiss the top of her head, inhaling the scent of her shampoo. The smell of grapefruit assaults my senses, making my heart race. I groan as I walk into the restaurant. I could’ve easily waited for the waitress to come back to us, but I needed to step away from Jade for a minute. She’s fucking deadly with her innocent façade and I have a strong reason to believe I’m going to fall victim to her and love every minute of it.
When I walk out, there’s a bloke talking to her as if it’s an everyday occurrence. I have never been jealous of any man until now. The pure rage I feel, watching him talk to my pretend wife almost takes over my body, yet I find the will to let it go. Who am I to stand in the way of her potential hook-ups?

The first time I laid eyes on Wyatt Burton was outside of my biological mother's house.  Abandoning me twenty years ago, I never knew that meeting her would change my life so completely. In fact, there were many things that I never expected that day, but there were a few things I knew for sure. Nothing would ever be the same--not even me.  And it was all about to get very MESSY.

WYATT

Marissa Thornton deserved so much. She was beautiful beyond reason and never took my shit.  She drew me in, while driving out the worst in me.  But when she let me in, trusted me completely, I thought I could finally let down my guard and find true happiness.  I was wrong.  Dead wrong, about myself, about her, and most importantly about the binds of LOVE.
