REVIEW
So if you have read the previous book Nailed Down then you would know about Kiel. He is Kane's brother and we got a glimpse of him in that book. I liked Kiel. He had a little man whore thing about him but he seemed nice. So in this one we find out Kiel had some trouble in his life. When in NY as a journalism student he met a girl,Cara, while working on a story. They fell in love and got married. Unfortunately Cara's family was into illegal activities and she was scared to tell her family about Kiel. So she lied and said he was stalking her and her family beat his ass. He was sent home battered in bruised physically and in his heart. A job offers has him coming back to NY and he hopes to keep Cara out of his mind but unfortunately she has orchestrated the whole job thing to get him back to the city. See her father is sick and with her only other sibling, Johnny, running the family business he needs to make sure she is taken care of. So her father's plan is to marry her off to a guy named Vinnie. Vinnie is vile and disgusting so Cara sees her only way out is to get Kiel back since they are already married. All Kiel has to do is accept her offer and he will get a nice cushy journalist job and some money.
First impressions.... I did not like Cara. She is manipulative and wants to use Kiel to make her life easier. I get that she doesn't want to marry Vinnie but it took a long time in the book for her to own up to what she did to Kiel. If he was my brother I would have never forgave her, family or not. Kiel did use sex as a way to hurt her and she was pissed but she tried to use sex first to get him to agree with her idea so I was kinda of like how are you mad? Another reason Cara didn't grow on me is because of a scene talking about her job working with a museum. She is kind of pissed that even though her family is old money, old crime money, the curator of the museum looks down on Cara because Cara's family is using the museum and charity work to look legitimate. That's exactly what y'all are doing so why you mad again?
Even with all of the things I didn't like about Cara, I could see why Kiel still loved her after everything. I wish the authors would have added some more past scenes with these two rather than snippets because I think it would have warmed me up to her a little more. Kiel and Cara did make a good couple and they had some good steamy scenes. Let's just say when Cara's intended Vinnie realizes she is off the market, some people get roughed up, some shots are fired, and it is just over all chaos. Kiel's family gets involved and some more secrets from Cara's family are revealed.
I liked this one but it was just ok. Some later chapters focus on other characters as a set up for the next book but I think it detracted some from this book. Overall I can say it was a worth while read and I will continue to read more from these two authors. 3 Stars
